VYF Program overview


In support of MOFA’s YIAP, UCL and partner OAPI, propose a Private Public partnership (PPP) arrangement to launch an innovative VITUAL YOUTH FARMER program to entice Youth in Ghana currently working in the formal sector into agriculture as a diversified means to earning additional income whilst building a viable venture they can rely on while on retirement.

Our Target ?


Many government interventions in getting youth into Agriculture has been targeted at existing small-scale youth farmers and un-employed youth which has yielded some positive results.
However, there are over 100,000 Ghanaian youth working in the formal sector in Ghana and overseas who have been ignored when mobilizing youth into agriculture.
The Virtual Youth Farmer program targets employed youth to own equity in farming projects undertaken with OAPI which is an expert Agricultural Management company.

KEY BENEFITS

  • INCREASE WORKING YOUTH‘S FUTURE DISPOSAL INCOME FROM FARM EARNINGS. IT ESTIMATED THAT OVER A PERIOD OF 15 YEARS A FARMER UNDER THE VYF CAN EARN AT 100,000+ USD BASED ON CROP TYPE. THIS IS EXTRA INCOME!!

  • CREATE EMPLOYMENT: 5,500 VYFS AND +33,000 UN-EMPLOYED YOUTH ON THE FARMS.

  • INCREASE FOOD SUPPLIES AND EXPORT EARNINGS

  • VYF WILL HELP EXPAND THE ALREADY EXISTING SUPPLY CHAIN (AGRO-CHEMICAL, EQUIPMENT, MACHINERY & SERVICES) BUSINESS.

  • ATTRACT NEW BUSINESSES TO THE ENCLAVE WHERE THE FARMS ARE LOCATED (EQUIPMENT LEASING, MAINTENANCE, CREDIT SERVICES ETC.

  • SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF THE LOCALITY IN WHICH THE FARMS ARE LOCATED.

  • MINIMIZE RURAL – URBAN DRIFT

  • DEVELOPMENT OF THE VARIOUS AGRICULTURAL PRODUCT VALUE-CHAINS.

  • WORKING YOUTH EMPLOYMENT INVOLVED IN AGRICULTURE WILL ADD PRESITGE AND ENHANCE THE IMAGE OF FARMING.
